I speak with Mary Dee about her wonderful frozen yogurt shop, Sweet Yo’s.

Today I’m happy to be speaking with Mary Dee, the owner of Sweet Yo’s in Grandville. This is one of my favorite yogurt places in town, so I’m excited to ask Mary all about her business.

How long have you been in business, and what do you offer?

I got started in November 2019, and we are a self-serve frozen yogurt shop. Basically, you get as much yogurt as you want, add whatever toppings you’d like, then pay upfront based on weight. So you can get a tiny, simple snack, or you can get a huge complicated treat. We also offer fresh waffle cones, and even if you don’t get one, the smell from them is wonderful.

When I walked around your store earlier, I noticed a mochi stand. What is that?

Mochi is a rice protein that’s pounded flat and rolled in high-quality ice cream. I guess you could say it’s like chewy ice cream, but no matter how you describe it, it’s delicious. We also have to-go yogurt, in case you want to take some home with you.

How do you decide between yogurt flavors and toppings? It seems like there’s so much to choose from.

We like to shake things up to give our customers a new experience every time. Some people see which toppings they’d like and choose their yogurt based on that. Others do things the other way around. That’s what’s so great about a self-serve place like ours; you can approach things however you’d like.

Do you offer any outside services?

Yes! We do birthday parties if the customer calls ahead. I’ll get some balloons, clear out the store, and make sure everyone has a good time. Whether it’s for a child or an adult, we do our best to make the experience as fun as possible.

I’d like to thank Sweet Yo’s and Mary Dee for speaking with me today. If you come into her shop and mention my name, she’ll even give you a free yogurt on me! As always, if you have any real estate-related questions, please call or email me. I am always willing to help!
